A trip to G-Land is a dream come true for every surfer
If you look at the map, you’ll see how unique this place is: incoming swell wraps around part of the island and breaks over the reef into long, perfectly shaped waves
We’re heading out on a great forecast to G-Land (a unique natural reserve, Alas Purwo, on the island of Java).
G-Land features around 7 surf spots of varying difficulty, with different types of waves (right-handers, left-handers, and A-frame waves), suitable for intermediate surfers as well as professionals. Different sections across the spots cater both to longboarders and shortboard riders.
We’ll be staying in small bungalows in the jungle of the reserve. Our neighbors will be monkeys, deer, giant monitor lizards, wild boars, and tropical birds. It’s said that tigers once lived here in large numbers, though they haven’t been seen for a long time. One of our favorite spots is even called Tiger Track.
In the evenings, surfers from all over the world gather around a bonfire on the beach with a bottle of beer. Australian pro surfers and true surf enthusiasts save money to stay longer in the surf camp, and in the evenings they share stories about where and how they caught their best waves of the day.
