Among Balinese surfers, Balian is known as a surf getaway
Many surfers come here for a couple of days “chasing the swell” to reset and surf as much as possible. It’s located on the west coast of the island, far from the busy and crowded Canggu.
This place is located on the west coast of the island, far from the busy and crowded Canggu. There are no traffic jams or crowds here, and you can enjoy sunsets in peace—either alone or with close friends—and spend relaxed evenings by the ocean around a bonfire. The beach features sparkling black volcanic sand.
In the village itself, remoteness from noisy areas blends perfectly with a calm, laid-back atmosphere, along with great restaurants and cafés, as well as cozy high-quality villas for a relaxing stay. We will be staying in one of them.
The main peak at Balian is an A-frame wave of excellent quality with a long wall, perfect for practicing cutbacks. It’s suitable for both longboarders and shortboard riders. The second peak is the inside, where beginners usually surf—it has slightly smaller waves compared to the main peak, but still offers a great wall.
