ABOUT THE MALDIVES

The official language is Dhivehi, though English is widely spoken throughout the tourism industry and resort islands.

The local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars and major credit cards are accepted across the islands.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE MALDIVES

Over 99% of the Republic of Maldives is ocean. The archipelago consists of nearly 1,200 coral islands organized into 26 natural atolls, with only around 200 islands inhabited.

Surrounded by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, sea temperatures consistently range between 27°C and 30°C, making wetsuits unnecessary.

The Maldives strictly protects its delicate marine ecosystems. Removing coral reef fragments, shells, or turtle products is strictly prohibited by law.
